Closed Casket by Sophie Hannah

Closed CasketThis is the second Hercule Poirot story written by Sophie Hannah. His sidekick from ‘The Monogram Murders’, Edward Catchpool is helping out again.

Lady Athelinda Playford has planned a house party at her mansion in Clonakilty. She summons her lawyer and makes a change to her will – one she announces at dinner that night. She has decided to cut off her two children without a penny and leave her fortune to someone who has only weeks to live.

Neither Poirot nor Cathchpool know why they have been invited. Is Lady Playford expecting a murderer to strike after this revelation? Who would it be if indeed there is a murder (I’m not telling one way or the other!).

The legendary ‘little grey cells’ have a lot to think about with Edward doing a lot of the running about, but not all. Wonderful description of Poirot moving fast!

A good old fashioned country house mystery, which has you thinking to the end.
