The Secret of Orchard Cottage by Alex Brown

The Secret of Orchard CottageI really enjoyed reading this story. Partly because I grew up in a cottage, we only had two apple trees rather than an orchard though, but mainly because it is a well written interesting story.

It’s set in a small village of Tindledale, with the cottage being well hidden & difficult to find.

There is plenty of humour as the story unfolds, but sadness also.

Themes include grief, loss, love, guilt, single-parenting, step-parenting, dementia, world war 2, all woven into a family story spanning generations.

I couldn’t put it down once I’d started, needed to know what happened to all the characters. I sympathised with them, laughed and cried with them too. They are so well characterised that I could see them in my mind.

I’m not going to tell you what the secret is, you must read the book to find out!
