Review: The Lying-down Room by Anna Jaquiery

The lying-down room

Set mainly in Paris, but with diversions to Russia and back.

An elderly woman has been murdered to the soundtrack of Faure’s Requiem, her body then grotesquely displayed.

Commandant Serge Morel is in charge of the case, this the first book in a series for him.

The characters in the book are scarily well drawn, especially those suspected of committing the crime. I almost felt sorry for them, with the upbringing they had.

There is great depth to the story with several sub themes coming into play which add to the plot. Religion & childhoods play a big part in the story too.

I can’t say I enjoyed it, but I had to finish it. It’s a very disturbing book, not an easy read.
