The Dress Thief by Natalie Meg Evans

Part thriller, part whodunnit and partly a book for The Dress Thiefthose of us who love clothes, this debut novel is set mainly in Paris in the 1930s and follows the fortunes of Alix, a young Englishwomen of slender means who dreams of being a couture designer.

The harsh realities of survival find her instead copying and counterfeiting designs while her life and the lives of those around her unravel in the shadow of the Depression, Anti-Semitism and Civil War in Spain

I didn’t expect to enjoy this as much as I did, the writing is gripping and the story roams around a Europe slipping towards the upheaval of an all-encompassing war.
