The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath

bellJust one of a huge range of must-read books which I, erm, hadn’t. Until I picked a copy up in Mile Cross Library and curiosity got the better of me.

I found it a surprisingly readable book: a brilliant depiction of the inner life of a woman so disatisfied with the options open to her that she becomes severely depressed.

The book is so vivid and the feelings so clearly conveyed that reading it is a remarkable experience- and an insight into the life of a previous generation of women.
