Dersingham Library Book Club’s Favourite reads of 2013

We meet every month and usually have two (or sometimes three) books to discuss. In December we meet to look back at the year of great reads and scoff a few mince pies.

At the top was The universe versus Alex Woods by Gavin Extence. universeThis is a fabulous little book that encompasses great themes of childhood, illness, and death.  Gavin Extence does it all with a surprising amount of humour and it’s a great book club read!

The rest of our favourites are:

One shot by Lee Child,

The fault in our stars by John Green

Tiny Sunbirds far away by Christie Watson

The unlikely pilgrimage of Harold Fry by Rachel Joyce

Cleaner of Chartres by Salley Vickers

The night circus by Erin Morgenstern

The snow child by Eowyn Ivey

A monster calls by Patrick Ness

The light between oceans by M L Stedman

Wool by Hugh Howey

Capital by John Lanchester

Sea of poppies by Amitav Ghosh

Secrets of the tides by Hannah Richell

The president’s hat by Antoine Laurain

Ash by James Herbert

The Killing by David Hewson

Bring up the bodies by Hilary Mantel

Come to the edge by Joanna Kavenna

Berlin crossing by Kevin Brophy

Black box by Michael Connelly

Heartbreak hotel by Deborah Moggach

Instructions for a heatwave by Maggie O’Farrell

The time keeper by Mitch Albom

Here’s to lots more great reads in 2014!

Happy reading

Alison
