Capital by John Lanchester

CapitalThe residents of Pepys Road, London all receive an anonymous postcard stating ‘We want what you have?’  Slowly we are introduced to the residents one by one, and so begins a brilliantly engaging novel, full of wonderful characters all facing life’s little challenges.  There’s the banker desperately trying to hide his ailing finances from his over spending wife, the Pakistani shop owner and his family (about to receive a visit from his constantly complaining mother), and Smitty the conceptual artist who constantly abuses his assistants – to name but a few! I think my favourite character was the honest Polish builder ‘Bogdan’. Truly, there’s something for everyone in this great tale of life in Britain today.

Happy reading
