World War Z An Oral History of the Zombie War by Max Brooks

max BrooksI would usually avoid anything about Zombies and no longer have the stomach for horror fiction generally, but this was recommended and its an intriguing read.

Written in many voices as a series of interviews with survivors of a pandemic infection by the Living Dead, it poses thought-provoking questions about society, politics, warfare and the will to survive while still being a rip-roaring tale which almost defies you to put it down.

Much is left for the reader to work out as each ‘interview’ stands alone without any commentary or connecting prose. I loved the voice of a young man so wrapped up in his computer gaming world that he didn’t understand that the Zombie threat was real until they were breaking down his door.
