The woman who went to bed for a year by Sue Townsend

After 17 years of keeping house and home for her precocious twins and astronomer husband, Eva Beaver retires to her bed and decides not to get up for a year!

This is a beautiful little story about being needed, wanted and loved. You can sympathise with Eva and understand her desire to hide under the duvet.

Full of a wonderful cast of characters – including an arthritic mother who hates continually traipsing up her daughter’s stairs, Poppy a girl who needs love and money from all those around her (including an unsuspecting Chinese student) , Alexander the man with the white van, dreadlocks and positive attitude, and even the window cleaner.

I loved the snippets of conversations and the strange and wonderful people who badger Eva for an audience. Loved the tale of the knitting shop owner who met her death by her own knitting needles!

Not sure I loved the ending so much but the journey was great fun.
