Wallis by Rebecca Dean

This fascinating woman seems to be an enduring interest to novelists and biographers.

I have liked all Rebecca Dean’s books and this novel explores Bessie Wallis Warfield’s early years and at times appears to be more biographical than a story. It takes us up to the time she met Prince Edward. Though I still never quite warmed to the woman,  I enjoyed the book very much, for it shows a part of her life that is little known without resorting to some of the more salacious stories that have been rumoured about her. It is however still a compelling and adventurous story, detailing her various encounters with unsuitable men and her determination to succeed at her own goals.
