Sing you home by Jodi Picoult

A couple who have gone through many failed attempts at IVF, finally separate. He finds drink, then God. She finds a girlfriend and there then ensues a court-room drama with the two sides battling over ‘custody’ of the remaining embryos. I have to say the cases – for a mother to be able to use the embryos with her new partner, or the father (closely led by his church legal team) who wants the possible child to grow up in a good Christian home – are well argued and you really feel part of the debate. The conclusion – yes, saw that coming – left me content and gave our book club a lot to discuss.
